Mavi’s present work “Idealized abstraction” combines abstraction and ennobled figurative. Normally there are animals and humans in her paintings. Rich colors romanticize the viewer. Story-telling and children are central to her life and work. Each painting has its own mythos, either new or based on a known story.
“Mavi” means my life in French. She picked up on the French philosophies of enjoying life while she lived in the south of France. In Europe, Mavi was reminded of the healing and communicative power in both art and hands, and blends the two in her paintings.
Her inspirations include Picasso, Miro, Chagall, Judy Chicago, Faith Wilding.
