Chris Britt was born in Phoenix, Arizona and spent far too much time in the desert sun as
a child. His only real talent being creative sarcasm, Chris luckily stumbled upon the only
appropriate profession… cartooning.

Britt was named Cartoonist of the Year in 1994 by the National Press Foundation in
Washington, D.C. In 2009, he was honored with the Sigma Delta Chi award, one of
journalism’s most prestigious awards. Chris has also won press club awards in Texas,
California, Washington State and Illinois. In 2000, he was the only U.S. cartoonist to be
recognized by the United Nations for his cartoons dealing with the Mid East Peace issue.
Britt currently works as the editorial cartoonist for the State Journal-Register in Springfield,
Illinois. He has also been the staff editorial cartoonist at the Arizona Business Gazette,
The Sacramento Union, The Houston Post, The News Tribune (Tacoma, WA) and The Seattle
Times. He has covered major political conventions, elections and events for over 20 years.

Chris’s cartoons are syndicated by Creators News Service, and are distributed to over 200
newspaper clients nationally and internationally.

Chris’ cartoons have been published in Newsweek, Newsweek Japan, Time Magazine,
U.S. News and World Report, The New York Times, The Washington Post and USA Today.
They have also been aired on CNN’s Inside Politics, MSNBC, Fox News and ABC’s Good
Morning America.

About The Gallery

Mavi Contemporary Art showcases fine art, paintings, sculptures, glass, photography, and original prints from a select group of contemporary artists. With the remodel, the front vault is now available for installation pieces as well. Sculpture now has a stronger focus in the gallery already considered a “must see” in Tacoma. Mavi and Elizabeth plan to support the work of local artists in addition to bring in artists from around the world.
