The most accurate way to describe Schmerholz’ approach to fine art sculpture is a quote from Antoine de Saint-Exupery: “Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away.”
His work is about finding that delicate balance between inner essence and outer form, through the use of emerging expressions from natural shapes, details contrasted against broad-forms, textures juxtaposed with smooth fluid surfaces and combining of different material, often all of these in the same work.

The varied subjects in his work are matched only by his ability to work with any and all sculptural media and on any scale, from a 25 ton block of granite to delicate jade sculptural pendants, the ‘Stone of Heaven’ being a recent addition to his repertoire.

Georg was born Hungarian in Transylvania, Rumania. He studied engineering/design for two years in University, before escaping communism to find freedom and pursue his passion for sculpture. He lived in Italy and Sweden before moving to Canada where he became a prominent sculptor in the Pacific Northwest.
Georg relocated to Northern California in 2001 to live and work on a peaceful and secluded 10 acres in the foothills of the Sierra-Nevada mountains.

About The Gallery

Mavi Contemporary Art showcases fine art, paintings, sculptures, glass, photography, and original prints from a select group of contemporary artists. With the remodel, the front vault is now available for installation pieces as well. Sculpture now has a stronger focus in the gallery already considered a “must see” in Tacoma. Mavi and Elizabeth plan to support the work of local artists in addition to bring in artists from around the world.
